TRIP CBD Drinks: What You're Actually Buying

Functional drinks promise to do something beyond quenching thirst, and few have caught on in the UK like TRIP. The pitch: lightly sparkling water, botanicals and CBD in a 250ml can — 10mg of it since a 2025 reformulation, down from the 15mg the range launched with.

This is a research-led overview of the range rather than a tasting write-up — we’re upfront that we haven’t run a formal panel on it. What follows is what the product actually is, what the evidence supports, and where the value sits.

The range

TRIP started with CBD and has since expanded well beyond it. The current line-up splits into CBD drinks (Elderflower Mint, Peach Ginger and Raspberry Orange Blossom) and a larger range of magnesium drinks that contain no CBD at all. Worth knowing before you order: the two look near-identical on the shelf, and the non-CBD cans are now the bulk of the business — TRIP told The Grocer that its Mindful Blend range makes up over 90% of its UK drinks sales.

The CBD dose has changed, so check the can. TRIP cut the CBD in these drinks from 15mg to 10mg per can during 2025 and added magnesium citrate (60mg a can) at the same time, following updated Food Standards Agency guidance. TRIP’s own product pages still list both recipes and say they can’t guarantee which you’ll receive while the old stock clears — so the can in your hand may be either. Read the ingredients panel rather than the listing.

Elderflower Mint is the one to start with — it’s the Great Taste award winner and the flavour most consistently picked out in reviews. The mixed pack is the cheaper way to find out which you prefer.

What the CBD does — and doesn’t

Be realistic here. CBD is not a sedative, its effects vary a lot between people, and the evidence base for low doses in drinks is thin. UK rules are strict about this for good reason: no CBD drink may be marketed as treating, preventing or curing anything, and we won’t imply otherwise.

What you’re buying is a low-calorie sparkling soft drink with 10mg of CBD in it, or 15mg if you get an older can. If that becomes a 5pm ritual you reach for instead of a beer, that has real value — but the value is mostly in the ritual and the drink, not in a pharmacological effect you should expect to feel.

The Food Standards Agency advises healthy adults to limit CBD to 10mg per day from all sources. A reformulated can sits exactly on that figure and an older one goes past it, so either way one can is a day’s worth. Worth factoring in if you already take CBD oil, and a reason not to treat these as an all-day drink.

Value

Case pricing moves a lot, and Amazon discounts these heavily and often — we’ve deliberately not printed a price here, because any figure we quote will be wrong within a week. Check the current price on the listing before ordering. As a rule the 24-can cases work out meaningfully cheaper per can than the 12s, and buying single cans from a corner shop is by far the worst value.

Verdict

Judged on what can actually be checked rather than on our own palate — a Great Taste award for Elderflower Mint, and consistent praise across published reviews — this reads as a functional soda people drink because they like it rather than one they put up with. We haven’t tasted the range and don’t score it here. Buy it because you want an alcohol-free drink with an interesting botanical profile, not because you expect the CBD to do heavy lifting. Check which range you’re ordering, since the magnesium cans are a different product, and check the CBD figure on the can, since two formulations are in circulation.
